It's okay. I didn't need to be happy, ever again. I really didn't.
nfjkreqfnekwqf this was perfect. I'm not the OP and honestly I wasn't even into the prompt in the first place, but this is so amazing and you've left me heart-sore, the kind you get when things really connect and mean something, and the meaning hurts.
The difference between Ignis when Noct was alive and they were happy and in love, and Ignis when he had to leave, starting to flounder and realise the depth of his mistake, and Ignis after those thousand years, untethered and in pain and yet still with the remnants of who he was floating about him. How he never really saw Clarus, Artis and Ferus except as replicas of him, Noct and Gladio, how the present doesn't really mean anything to him like the past does, but they still came out from between the lines of Ignis' narrative and became characters in his own right. Artis seeking the truth. Ferus not forgiving Ignis but releasing him from what he recognises as a curse and not Ignis' intentions. Because ultimately Ignis did only do it for love, and it still ruined the entire world.
And, of course, Noct. I couldn't bear the thought of Noct not having forgiven Ignis, but it turns out him forgiving him is unbearable too.
Thank you for writing. Now please excuse me while I go cry and see if I can get these feelings a bit under control.
